1. September Meeting – "Branding Strategies: How to Deliver on Your Brand Promise"
On Thursday, September 7, Linda Welter Cohen, President and CEO of The Caliber Group, will explain how branding is not limited to creating a new logo, ads, websites and marketing materials. Rather, branding is about building accurate perceptions and relationships with your key audiences, whether your organization is persuading target markets to buy a product, service or idea. Attend this presentation to learn 10 branding strategies to help your organization deliver on its brand promise.
Linda Welter Cohen has nearly 20 years of marketing and PR experience. In 1997 she founded the Caliber Group to provide high-caliber marketing and public relations counsel to new or expanding businesses and companies in crisis. Prior to forming her company, Linda worked as an account manager for a local marketing agency and as vice president of marketing for a commercial bank, managing the company’s marketing, advertising, and public relations statewide. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, she currently serves as the chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Board of Ethics and Professional Standards.
The meeting will be held between 11:30 am and 1:15 pm at McMahon's Steak House, 2959 N. Swan Road (SW corner with Ft. Lowell). The cost is $18 for members, $25 for guests and members without reservations, and $14 for students. No-shows will be billed.
To RSVP, send an email to acoba@dakotacom.net or call 520-744-1979 by Tuesday, September 5. Please indicate your preference for chicken or vegetable kabob. Tossed salad will be served with either entree.
2. Encourage Others to Join IABC in September and Save!
September is IABC’s Worldwide Membership Month. This means that when any new or lapsed member joins or re-joins IABC during that month, the $40 application fee will be waived for enrollments made via fax, mail or phone. And, if you refer someone who becomes a new member, you will save $25 the next time you renew your IABC membership. To help prospects get a taste of the benefits of IABC membership, the members-only portion of the IABC website (www.iabc.com) will be accessible to non-members during September. For further details, including the ID and password to access the members-only portion of the website, contact our chapter’s Membership Director, Romi Carrell Wittman, at 403-2860 or r.wittman@cox.net.
3. IABC/Tucson Seeks a New Identity
Our chapter’s logo needs a facelift! Interested in developing our new “look” in preparation for our chapter’s 25th anniversary? Visit our website (www.iabctucson.com) in mid-September for details about how to enter a contest to develop our new chapter logo. Entries must be submitted by December 31, 2006. The winning entry will be announced at our chapter’s birthday party on February 1, 2007. In return for creating the chosen design, the contest winner will receive the equivalent of a one-year membership in IABC (the dollar amount will be announced in September/October) that can be applied toward a new or renewing IABC membership or fees for IABC/Tucson activities.
4. Welcome New Chapter Members
Cynthia Devin, Monica Surfaro Spiegelman, Linda Kern, and Linda Herrick have recently joined IABC/Tucson. We are pleased to have these communication professionals as members and look forward to seeing them at chapter events.
