Join IABC at the Tucson Festival of Books
Anticipation is building for the March 13-14 celebration of books and writing and IABC/Tucson is in the thick of it. Our booth will help create awareness for our industry and offer daily drawings for free reading material. Get involved in these ways:
· Meet people for a couple of hours as a business communications expert inside the booth. Contact Nancy McCluskey-Moore, ABC nmcmoore@yahoo.com.
· Market your or your company’s books, publications and biz comm services in the booth. Contact Nancy McCluskey-Moore, ABC for details.
· Donate a book or basket for the daily drawings. If we have enough books, we’ll create theme baskets. They can be on any topic and for any age group. One member suggests colleagues donate a copy---new or used---of some of their favorite reads. To make a donation, contact Karen Lutrick, klutrick@gmail.com.
· Stop by the booth when you visit the festival to enter the drawing. We’ll give away two books from IABC’s Knowledge Center specially targeted to business communicators.
Watch for details on the booth, what members are doing at the festival, the chapter meet-up on each day and other interesting nuggets. Join the conversations on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn in the coming weeks.
Thank you to the committee that is working on our presence at the festival: Nancy McCluskey-Moore, ABC, Karen Lutrick, Jaime Williams and Elena Acoba, with guidance from Daphne Gilman.
How's Your Cactus Quill Entry Coming?
Remember that early deadline is March 19 and final deadline is March 26. Find all the details on the 2010 Cactus Quill Awards, sponsored by Bohte Design LLC, on our website, www.iabctucson.com.
Cactus and Silver Quill winner Michelle Rau has posted several suggestions on how to handle the sticky “measurement” portion of the work plan, a section that befalls many entries.
Quill judges and winners are ready to provide advice. If you want help assembling your entry or have someone review it for suggestions, contact Elena Acoba, acoba@dakotacom.net.
Will Dobbs Wins Women Basketcat Tickets
Congrats to Will for snagging tickets to an upcoming UA game, courtesy of Hughes Federal Credit Union. He was the first to respond to a LinkedIn offer to members. Don’t miss out on future fun stuff; join the LinkedIn group Tucson Business Communicators.
Are You Ready for Retirement?
Jim Hall, manager of Hughes Federal Credit Union’s Financial Services, made a strong case for retirement planning at any stage of your career. Attendees provide some of their impressions in a Feb. 3 seminar recap that you can read on the chapter website.
Board Service Can Lead to Toronto
IABC’s Pacific Plains Region is offering a scholarship to the 2010 World Conference June 6-9. IABC/Tucson will nominate interested members who are on the board or, as the qualifications say, “on the leadership fast track.” Consider board service in exchange for a chance to have your conference registration fee covered. For more information, contact Paul Tumarkin, pkt@barkingshelby.com.
Survey Says…
Thank you to the 20 members who chose chapter events for the second half of this year. “Powerful Presentations” Oct. 27 and “Communicating in Tough, Touchy, Sensitive Situations” Nov. 17 received the most votes as IABC web seminars that IABC/Tucson ought to host. The board will work to get it done. If you can provide a meeting space, contact Paul Tumarkin.
